It is probably wrong that the cover is the hardest part of the book….

So, this is my new blog. My name is Tykhe and I used to be a fanfiction writer. I suppose I will chronicle my adventures in attempting to become a real live published writer in a failing economy where people don’t read. Woohoo!

Recently I came across this anthology: http://talesfromthevelvetchamber.blogspot.com/  Asking for “Stories that radically revise stereotypes of “bad women” in the Bible, in myth and in fairy-tales. Stories that aren’t afraid to be literary, transgressive, dark, and sexy. ” Translation - making women sympathetic by making them really slutty. Hey, the inner sorority girl in me says there nothing wrong with that.

So, I gave it a try and met with disasterous results.  Came up with the idea of writing a story from the point of view of the Celtic Goddess Aine who was so badass that after she slept with men they died! Decided that unleashing her on an Ivy League Alumni party would be awesome as she’ll take care of the rampant frat boy/womanizer problem. But problem with writing a story from the POV of a goddess is that it’s hard to come up with conflict. She’s a Goddess! She’s all powerful. So, I decided to tell the story from the POV of her downtrodden and exasperated man-servant who is a half Griffin.

 Hey it’s not a bad idea! Except, that meant a sympathetic male character serving a psychotic bitch. Not a very empowering message no?

So, I ended up going back to watching Gossip Girl music videos. Oh well, I guess I’ll have to get published another day.
